My vises are made by Panavise, a U.S. Company.  The one with the wide jaws is the model 350.  The smaller one is the model 301. Both have the 312 Base mount – www.panavise.com



  1. I think the super strong springs made the picks brake and is why this lock was unpickable. Too bad the key didn’t go in a little easier.

  2. If triple ‘0’ tolerances were the rule, rather than just in the occasional challenge lock…
    The precise fit of the pin means that a picker’s lifting force must be equally precise. Much more than a degree off and that pin may as well be seized.
    Keep this one really well lubricated.
    Without those ball bearings, the lock wouldn’t work.
    Any kind of foreign matter gets into the cylinder, good luck.
    In the field, crazy tight fit equals questionable reliability.

  3. So I’m having a hard time understanding exactly what made that lock unpickable??? Was it the super strong springs? So if it was standard pins and super springs, you would have the same problem? What effect did the tapered pins have? They were snug, but they still moved, so why or what is the advantage to them? It’s a genius design because it worked, I’m just curious as to why exactly it worked….would tapered pins with normal springs create the same result? The ball bearings do little except allow for key insertion and extraction….maybe make it more difficult to get on a pin right? Please explain why it worked so well. Thank you

  4. Hey bill I’m thirteen and your videos inspired me to pick up lock picking and I’m actually pretty good at it. I can pick a master lock in a minute with my makeshift picks made out of paper clips my really picks are coming in two day really excited!!!

  5. I'm not sure I get how the tapering works to make the lock harder to pick? The strong springs I understand, but if you can slide the pins out the way you did then the chambers have to be at least a little oversized all the way up? I'm sure I'm missing something – anyone care to explain?

    I was going to build something much like this as a challenge lock.
    I am glad I didn't spend the 20 hours or so working out the tight clearances.
    I didn't think of the air valve springs though… I was going to use S&W cylinder crane detent springs…

  7. So you have captive balls to make the key entry easier since the spring tension is much higher than normal, but what does the driver-pin taper accomplish?
