(896) Review: SouthOrd BPXS-12 Pagoda Pick Set

My vises are made by Panavise, a U.S. Company.  The one with the wide jaws is the model 350.  The smaller one is the model 301. Both have the 312 Base mount – www.panavise.com

  1. Always look forward to watching your reviews and picking video. Keep up the excellent work !!

  2. Bill and his cats. I was flushing my engine cooling system, and learned antifreeze companies have put an additive that makes the antifreeze taste bad, so cats and dogs will not try to drink it. I put a lovely mark behind my little finger when a jack stand came down and pinched the skin on my hand. The swelling was incredible. The blood blister is impressive as heck too. It was like pinching my hand between two anvils. I learned the a rocking motion with a Bogota worked on a 5 spool plus one offset pin TruGaurd lock actually worked. If I don’t practice daily my skills go south fast.

  3. I am no one to be telling anyone what to pick and not to pick, but BILL, you gotta stop trying to pick your cats! They are going to claw you every time. Can you blame them?!

  4. Ty Bill ! i see i’m gonna have to order the rest of that set haha!
I actually bought 3 picks from the Pagoda set..
The Bogota, the std hook and the deforest diamond..
i can pretty much open every lock i have with those 3 picks..
Except for this one Best Padlock.. its been kicking my @ss for weeks now.. lol ( i think its full of serrated pins.. there’s no counter rotation, everything just crunches.. )
I ordered and am waiting on a worm rake and the flat bar tension set from Sparrows at the moment which should round out my carry set.

  5. Thanks for this video, it has clarified something I was thinking about for my McGyver lock pick set that I wish to create.

  6. This video is very interesting. This set seems to solve an actual problem.

I am just starting out. Today is my second day picking and raking. Yesterday, I got really lucky with the sparrows practice lock set. The two, three, and four pin locks opened in less than a minute. The five pin took a little longer, and required everything I had on hand. But, it eventually gave up. One pin at a time. Don’t ask me how it happened.

I had a look at every key/lock I could touch. Of course I tried for an open. I had no luck outside of the sparrows practice set. I can’t feel anything binding. But, I sure can hear those pins drop when I let off the tension wrench. Comparing known keys, and rakes. It seems I just don’t have anything the proper shape.

This set seems to fill in the gaps, in the standard assortment of rakes. In the long run, it may be easier to just work with a plan. But, for the new guy looking for easy opens, or someone just looking for speed. This opens new doors.

Thank you for all of the hard work, and free information.

  7. Thanx for the great instructional video. I learn something new each time I watch you !!

  8. All this time I thought you were supposed to use a raking action with a Bogota. I’m going to try this rocking technique to see if it increases my success rate. Thanks Bill
