(208) Commando Padlock Examined & Picked Open (Thanks Geoman1217!!!)

LockLab is Fan funded!  Help pay for stuff to review, break and talk trash about, and maybe even give away when we’re done.  Join the Tribe!

My vises are made by Panavise, a U.S. Company.  The one with the wide jaws is the model 350.  The smaller one is the model 301. Both have the 312 Base mount – www.panavise.com

  1. Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest writing a blog article or vice-versa? My blog discusses a lot of the same topics as yours and I feel we could greatly benefit from each other. If you happen to be interested feel free to send me an e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you! Excellent blog by the way!

  2. Oh and just by the way… I always HATED laminated padlocks… I only have like 2 of them except the Commandos. But as soon as I had my firt Commando in my hands I was like "WOW that is the coolest laminated padlock I have ever seen!"

  3. Hey bill, great video mate and good picking. I am doing a second review of the commando locks at the moment and will hopefully be able to make a nice pdf out of that report! You are absolutely right mate the Commandos are superior for their price. I do however have several things in mind that could be improved. First of all the Actuator design. I got all my ideas set now just gotte bring them down to paper 🙂

  4. Hey Patrick I think you will not have the space on the small padlock that you have at the moment. My suggestion was for a bigger version if you are going to make one someday 🙂

  5. I've been planning on buying a few commando locks as general-purpose around the homestead locks, but I'm waiting to see the upgraded versions 🙂

Seems like some folks with heads on their shoulders are working at Commando.

  6. I knew you'd get through that quickly Bill…I'm hoping our new cores will slow you down a bit. The guys are right–currently they are just 5 pins but with a combo of hybrid serrated and spools. Dicey wants to see 6 pins and I can't argue against that since I think we have the space…Thanks for the compliments and we'll make sure you're not the last to try our upgrade when I'm done with it. I don't think I'm alone when I say I want to see you launch a grenade at my lock!

  7. Commando locks are actually great for what they have to compete with. (Think Master DG made in mexico and lowered MIL standards) And Patrick of Commando Lock has listened to us. Things that are in the works are a tighter keyway, security keypins (currently just drivers are security pins) among other things. They are also going to bring out a few more models of lock in 2013. AND they are made in the USA!

  8. About time Bill! I've been waiting for your assessment of the Commando. I have one that Commando sent me with a "feedback deadening" mechanism you should try. Thanks for the video!
